OE achieves these goals by stimulating investment in power system infrastructure and building partnerships between states, local governments, tribes, and power system operators to enhance reliability and affordability of the electric grid. Projects submitted under this NOFO must demonstrate measurable improvements in electric grid capacity and system value (usefulness), combining physical capacity gains, which include solutions such as reconductoring or other infrastructure upgrades with operational efficiency and/or flexibility from other Advanced Transmission Technologies (ATTs). Applications must show how these complementary technologies expand transfer cap... |

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Alaska Science Center (ASC), is offering a funding opportunity to a CESU partner for research to support the estimation of polar bear abundance for the Southern Beaufort Sea and Northern Beaufort Sea subpopulations and a harvest risk assessment for the Southern Beaufort Sea subpopulation. The southern Beaufort Sea subpopulation has experienced a declining trend in abundance and the abundance estimate for the Northern Beaufort Sea subpopulation is outdated. Consequently, there is a need for new abundance estimates for both subpopulations. Additionally, the Southern Beaufort Sea subpopulation is exposed to a variety of anthropogenic activities that may present mortality risks for bears and thereby have the potential to affect the sustainability of the subsistence harvest. The goals of this project are to apply a recently developed integrated population model to estimate the abundance of the two subpopulations and to characterize the risk of under- or over-harvesting the Southern Beaufort Sea subpopulation. To facilitate those goals, the ASC will make available 20+ years of data on polar bear population dynamics to be used in the analysis. In support of this project, ASC seeks a CESU partnership that will focus on using an integrated population model (IPM) that blends western science with Indigenous Knowledge to estimate abundances and characteriz... |

The U.S. NSF Directorate for Technology, Innovation and Partnerships (NSF TIP) partners across sectors to advance three primary focus areas – accelerating technology translation and development, fostering regional innovation and economic growth, and preparing the American workforce for future high-wage jobs in STEM fields. The translation of research to practice ensures that the insights and innovations developed through scientific study and experimentation have tangible, positive impacts for the Nation. These impacts include improving the quality of life, promoting economic and job growth, ensuring national security, and maintaining global competitiveness. Indeed, scientific and engineering breakthroughs have the potential to address critical societal challenges in industries such as aerospace, agriculture, communications, education, energy, healthcare, national security, and transportation – but the translation of discoveries and innovations from the laboratory to society often takes many forms including non-linear pathways. The NSF TTP program was developed with several goals in mind: To identify and support use-inspired research and translational activities enabling a continuum from foundational research to practice; To develop partnerships and collaborations between institutions of higher education and other entities (e.g., industry, state/local/national government agencie... |
