The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Alaska Science Center (ASC), is offering a funding opportunity to a CESU partner for research to support the estimation of polar bear abundance for the Southern Beaufort Sea and Northern Beaufort Sea subpopulations and a harvest risk assessment for the Southern Beaufort Sea subpopulation. The southern Beaufort Sea subpopulation has experienced a declining trend in abundance and the abundance estimate for the Northern Beaufort Sea subpopulation is outdated. Consequently, there is a need for new abundance estimates for both subpopulations. Additionally, the Southern Beaufort Sea subpopulation is exposed to a variety of anthropogenic activities that may present mortality risks for bears and thereby have the potential to affect the sustainability of the subsistence harvest. The goals of this project are to apply a recently developed integrated population model to estimate the abundance of the two subpopulations and to characterize the risk of under- or over-harvesting the Southern Beaufort Sea subpopulation. To facilitate those goals, the ASC will make available 20+ years of data on polar bear population dynamics to be used in the analysis.In support of this project, ASC seeks a CESU partnership that will focus on using an integrated population model (IPM) that blends western science with Indigenous Knowledge to estimate abundances and characterize harvest risk. The primary objective of the STATEMAP component of the National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program (NCGMP) is to establish the geologic framework of areas determined to be vital to the economic, social, or scientific welfare of individual States and the Nation. The State Geologist/Survey Director/Chief Scientist (or similar position) shall determine mapping priorities in consultation with a multidiscipline State Mapping Advisory Committee (SMAC). These priorities shall be determined on the basis of: (1) State requirements for geologic map information in areas of multiple issue need or areas of compelling single-issue need, and (2) State requirements for geologic map information in areas where mapping is required to solve critical earth science problems. The USGS is offering a funding opportunity to a CESU partner for research on the utility of the Skydio Dock for X10 to (1) fly remotely beyond visual line of site (BVLOS), (2) collect image velocimetry (IV) data, (3) upload IV data via the Skydio Cloud and satellite communications (SatComms), and (4) develop a workflow for processing camera imagery to compute IV-derived discharge.The cost to operate stream gages in gage-poor or hard-to-access basins is both costly and a potential safety risk. The Next Generation Water Observing System (NGWOS) is seeking to trial and develop a workflow that is reliable and capable of transmitting camera imagery via SatComms and compute IV-derived discrete discharge that is equivalent to USGS standard methods.The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Water Resources Mission Area (WMA) is interested in partnering with the CESU to evaluate the operational readiness of near-field remote sensing of the Skydio Dock platform. The Skydio Dock has been developed to operate remotely by remote pilots; however, the application to collect camera imagery that can be processed and to compute river discharge is novel. The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation Green Mountain Reservoir is an ideal test bed for this technology given that two USGS streamgages are co-located within the proposed flight volume of the Skydio Dock. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Southwest Biological Science Center (SBSC) seeks to provide financial assistance to help build a program focusing on reclamation sciences to support energy development, critical minerals, and streamlining regulation. This program should identify opportunities to improve outcomes and efficiency of reclamation through (1) surveys of reclamation outcomes, analysis of existing experiments, and literature synthesis; (2) developing tools and maps to support reclamation; and (3) communicating new insights to stakeholders, including industry partners. The National Marine Fisheries Service (hereinafter, "NMFS") recognizes the unique importance of marine mammals to Alaska Native Organizations (hereinafter, "ANOs") and values ongoing efforts by Alaska Native Organizations' members to conserve and protect subsistence species under NMFS' jurisdiction. Pursuant to 16 U.S.C. §1388, NMFS may provide Federal assistance to ANOs to conserve marine mammals and to promote co-management of Alaska Native subsistence use of such mammals under NMFS' jurisdiction. This assistance, provided in the form of cooperative agreements, may be used to support conservation of marine mammals utilized for subsistence purposes by Alaska Natives. Funded activities may include development and implementation of species management, subsistence harvest monitoring, subsistence harvest sampling, scientific research, and public education and outreach.
