DeadlineMay 20, 2026
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Alaska Science Center (ASC), is offering a funding opportunity to a CESU partner for research to support the estimation of polar bear abundance for the Southern Beaufort Sea and Northern Beaufort Sea subpopulations and a harvest risk assessment for the Southern Beaufort Sea subpopulation. The southern Beaufort Sea subpopulation has experienced a declining trend in abundance and the abundance estimate for the Northern Beaufort Sea subpopulation is outdated. Consequently, there is a need for new abundance estimates for both subpopulations. Additionally, the Southern Beaufort Sea subpopulation is exposed to a variety of anthropogenic activities that may present mortality risks for bears and thereby have the potential to affect the sustainability of the subsistence harvest. The goals of this project are to apply a recently developed integrated population model to estimate the abundance of the two subpopulations and to characterize the risk of under- or ov...

SPARK is an opportunity to meet load demand growth and resource adequacy, and to address critical national, interregional, and regional needs. OE achieves these goals by stimulating investment in power system infrastructure and building partnerships between states, local governments, tribes, and power system operators to enhance reliability and affordability of the electric grid.   Projects submitted under this NOFO must demonstrate measurable improvements in electric grid capacity and system value (usefulness), combining physical capacity gains, which include solutions such as reconductoring or other infrastructure upgrades with operational efficiency and/or flexibility from other Advanced Transmission Technologies (ATTs). Applications must show how these complementary technologies expand transfer capability, strengthen reliability and resource adequacy, and reduce consumer cost impact while utilizing existing rights of way. DOE will prioritize projects that can be implemented quickly to deliver d...

The goals of this project are to apply a recently developed integrated population model to estimate the abundance of the two subpopulations and to characterize the risk of under- or over-harvesting the Southern Beaufort Sea subpopulation. To facilitate those goals, the ASC will make available 20+ years of data on polar bear population dynamics to be used in the analysis. In support of this project, ASC seeks a CESU partnership that will focus on using an integrated population model (IPM) that blends western science with Indigenous Knowledge to estimate abundances and characterize harvest risk. Additionally, the ASC seeks a partner that has experience conducting research on polar bear population dynamics. The proposed work will help the USGS research team improve assessments....

This program, administered by the Washington Headquarters Services (WHS) of the Department of War (DoW), seeks to fund a Contractor to provide comprehensive bus transportation services for DoW personnel. The primary focus of this funding opportunity is to establish and operate a continual express shuttle bus service, designated as Route A90, between the Pentagon Transit Center (PTC) and the Mark Center Station (MCS) facility. The overarching goal of this program is to ensure reliable and efficient ground transportation for DoW employees in the National Capital Region. The key objectives include:• Providing driver-operated shuttle bus services.• Maintaining and inspecting all transportation vehicles to ensure safety and reliability.• Adhering to all necessary license and security requirements.• Securing appropriate vehicle insurance and liability coverage.• Ensuring buses meet capacity (seating and standing) and accessibility requirements under federal standards.Historically, the Pentagon Services Division (PSD), a component of the Executive Services Directorate (ESD) under WHS, has been responsible for providing transportation solutions to DoW employees. This NFO continues that mission by addressing the specific transportation needs created by the location of the Mark Center facility, which is not within walking distance of any mass transit facility.

The primary objective of the STATEMAP component of the National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program (NCGMP) is to establish the geologic framework of areas determined to be vital to the economic, social, or scientific welfare of individual States and the Nation. The State Geologist/Survey Director/Chief Scientist (or similar position) shall determine mapping priorities in consultation with a multidiscipline State Mapping Advisory Committee (SMAC). These priorities shall be determined on the basis of: (1) State requirements for geologic map information in areas of multiple issue need or areas of compelling single-issue need, and (2) State requirements for geologic map information in areas where mapping is required to solve critical earth science problems. Priorities are not dependent on past agreements with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).The STATEMAP Program fulfills the NCGMP mission and supports Department of the Interior (DOI) Secretarial priorities (see https://www.doi.gov/performance/strategic-planning for the current DOI Strategic Plan) by developing a national geologic framework through the generation of new two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) geologic map databases. STATEMAP is directly supportive of EO 14154 ("Unleashing American Energy"), and Secretarial Orders 3417 ("Addressing the National Energy Emergency") and 3418 ("Unleashing American Energy"), which call for the acceleration of detailed geologic mapping in support of energy and critical mineral resources supported by data preservation and availability. The NOFO and any cooperative agreements or grants made under this NOFO are subject to 2 C.F.R. Part 200 as supplemented by 2 C.F.R. Part 910. ARPA-E funds research on, and the development of, transformative science and technology solutions to address the energy and environmental missions of the Department. The agency focuses on technologies that can be meaningfully advanced with a modest investment over a defined period of time in order to catalyze the translation from scientific discovery into early-stage technology. For the latest news and information about ARPA-E, its programs and the research projects currently supported, see: http://arpa-e.energy.gov/. ARPA-E funds transformational research. Existing energy technologies generally progress on established “learning curves” where refinements to a technology and the economies of scale that accrue as manufacturing and distribution develop drive improvements to the cost/performance metric in a gradual fashion. This continual improvement of a tech...

The USGS is offering a funding opportunity to a CESU partner for research on the utility of the Skydio Dock for X10 to (1) fly remotely beyond visual line of site (BVLOS), (2) collect image velocimetry (IV) data, (3) upload IV data via the Skydio Cloud and satellite communications (SatComms), and (4) develop a workflow for processing camera imagery to compute IV-derived discharge. The cost to operate stream gages in gage-poor or hard-to-access basins is both costly and a potential safety risk. The Next Generation Water Observing System (NGWOS) is seeking to trial and develop a workflow that is reliable and capable of transmitting camera imagery via SatComms and compute IV-derived discrete discharge that is equivalent to USGS standard methods. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Water Resources Mission Area (WMA) is interested in partnering with the CESU to evaluate the operational readiness of near-field remote sensing of the Skydio Dock platform. The Skydio Dock has been developed to operate remotely by remote pilots; however, the application to collect camera imagery that can be processed and to compute river discharge is novel. The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation Green Mountain Reservoir is an ideal test bed for this technology given that two USGS streamgages are co-located within the proposed flight volume of the Skydio Dock. The streamgages will offer verification data that can be used to assess the efficacy of various image velocimetry algorithms, which will be used to compute river discharge remotely.
